WebMar 15, 2011 · Integrative and conjugative elements (ICEs; also known as conjugative transposons) are mobile genetic elements that reside within a host genome but can excise to form a circle and transfer by conjugation to recipient cells. ICEs contribute to the spread of genes involved in pathogenesis, symbiosis, metabolism, and antibiotic resistance. Although ICEs exhibit various mechanisms promoting their integration, transfer and regulation, they share many common characteristics. ICEs comprise all mobile genetic elements with self-replication, integration, and conjugation abilities, including conjugative transposons, regardless of the particular conjugation and integration mechanism by which they act. Some immobile genomic pathogenicity islands are also believed to be defective ICEs that have lost their ability to conjugate.

WebIntegrated conjugative elements (ICEs), previously called conjugative transposons (CTns), are proving to be as widespread in bacteria as conjugative piasmids, and they are making a significant contribution to bacterial evolution. CTns carry a variety of accessory genes, such as antibiotic resistance and virulence genes, but even the ones that ... WebApr 11, 2024 · Transposon-insertion sequencing (TIS) methods couple high density transposon mutagenesis with next-generation sequencing and are commonly used to identify essential or important genes in bacteria. However, this approach can be work-intensive and sometimes expensive depending on the selected protocol. The difficulty to … WebAug 1, 1998 · Conjugative transposons encoding the tet(Q) tetracycline resistance determinants are widespread in clinical Bacteroides isolates and have been the subject of several recent reviews (54, 55). Tn5276-like transposons are large (70- to 80-kb) elements that encode genes for nisin production (44, 45). These elements have not been shown to … WebApr 11, 2024 · Furthermore, some Rap-Phr cassettes are able to regulate the mobility of the genetic element that contains them, be them plasmids (Meijer et al., 2024; Mori et al., 2024; Singh et al., 2013), or transposons (Auchtung et al., 2005, 2007).
