Webdont use scotch brite on precision surfaces any more than you'd use sandpaper. even the white grade is somewhat aggressive. assuming you meant the non-precision surfaces then yeah, scotchbrite is great. clean with hot soapy water to get the grit off, then flood with WD-40 (Water Displacing!) to dry it after without rust. level 2 Op· 11 mo. ago Web16 Jun 2008 · Maroon Scotch-Brite is the way to go, lubed up with Gunk engine cleaner. This procedure is also recommended by David Vizard in his books as prep after honing, before cleaning for final assembly. Rub cylinders with a slight crosshatch motion until you notice that they feel smooooth, about 1-1/2 to 2 minutes per cylinder.
